What is coffee packaging made of?
Most coffee bag and pouch options in the coffee market have at least 3-layer laminated barriers since coffee is sensitive to external factors such as oxygen and moisture. Aluminium, paper, polyethylene, and metallised PET are commonly used packaging materials for coffee.
Can coffee bags be recycled?
Yes. O F Packaging is proud to offer coffee pouches and bags that use mono-polymer materials. These are recyclable in many local systems in Australia. Plus, our recyclable coffee bean packaging is customisable and optimised for printing! Get in touch today to discuss more sustainable package solutions.
Do coffee bags need a valve?
Generally, we recommend a degassing valve in coffee pouches, and they have become an important feature when it comes to packaging coffee beans or freshly ground coffee. These valves are not for you to smell the coffee, but they are meant to push out the carbon dioxide inside the bags–ultimately preserving the freshness of the flavour. This is due to the degassing of coffee beans (the emission of carbon dioxide and other gases from coffee beans days after roasting). These gases can harm the coffee’s flavours and reduce shelf life if left in the bag for too long.
Valves in packaged coffee bags are also one way, to ensure oxygen and moisture are kept out. Coffee roasters often prefer valve-style packaging over other coffee packaging options, and it remains popular in the coffee industry today.
Can a metalised inner layer preserve coffee’s freshness?
Yes. A metalised layer in coffee bags provides excellent protection ensuring durability and freshness for custom designs. It helps preserve quality coffee almost as well as pure aluminium, plus gives a similar finish but at a lower cost.
Metalised films and layers are also popularly used to package a variety of other food products that require a high barrier such as retort products.
What is the best container to store coffee?
Coffee is best stored in airtight containers and pouches, with even vacuum pack pouches as an option for certain coffee products. For coffee beans and freshly ground coffee, it is best to pack them inside a bag with a valve. Choose among a variety of flexible packaging items from O F Packaging. We also have a range of box and carton.
Can I customise my coffee bags?
Yes, our coffee bags are customisable to meet your product’s needs. We can print branding on all sides of the coffee bean packaging to boost brand awareness. Special features such as easy tear openings, resealable enclosures, and valves can be added to improve consumer convenience. Additionally, we provide a variety of formats, to further customise your coffee bags.
